2023-2024 Homeschool Curriculum Picks

It is beyond hard to believe that another homeschool year is slowly rolling to a stop. After a short break, we will be jumping into our seventh year of formal education. It seems like just yesterday I was teaching my sweet, petite boy how to read and hold a pencil. I truly miss when he could sit and stare at a flower at the park for, what felt like, hours. Now that little boy is turning eleven in a mere three days. Time undoubtedly is a thief of joy.

I like to start researching curriculum early. By about one quarter into the new year, I already know what is working and what is not. I know, usually years in advance, what I would like to try or what will work incase xyz doesn't. This year, I will have a fifth/sixth grader and a second grader. I use those terms very loosely. My oldest needs lots of time to fully grasp, comprehend, and master a topic. My younger son can pick up rather quickly and soar, given the chance. That is why home education is such a perfect fit for us.

Here are my choices for my eleven-year-old boy:

Language Arts:

Winston Grammar

Spelling Power

Free Reads from AO and notebooking

Copy Work from KK

Vocabulary

Just Write series

Math: ?? Possibly Math with Confidence 5 (pilot group) or Apologia 5

- This one has had me deep in prayer. Years ago, we struggled immensely around second grade to find a good fit. After about six different things, we ended up on BJU math. It has been very good for him these past three years, but he really wanted something more "fun" like his younger brother has. Since we will likely switch to something else starting in pre-algebra, which I can not even entertain is just a few years away, I figured he could enjoy the last couple of years of elementary math, as long as it works well for him. My concern with MWC is he will have to be in the pilot group for sixth grade as well. I don't want to be jumping between so many curricula.

Here are my choices for my seven-year-old boy:

Language Arts:

All About Reading Level 3/4

Copy Work from KK

All About Spelling Level 1

Beginning Readers/Chapter Books

Just Write series

Math:

Second Grade Math w/Confidence

For our family/group studies, including science, history, geography, bible, etc:

The Kind Kingdom

 Enrichment:

For enrichment, the boys will both be taking a class at a local enrichment drop off program. It is on either Wednesday or Friday's. My eldest will be taking an art class and my younger will be doing a science class. My younger son is doing baseball in a month or so and will likely either do soccer again or try karate. My eldest hasn't really found a sport he likes and is choosing to not participate in one. Both are active in church as well.

There you have it. Everything is coming together for next school year. I have about 75% of our curricula purchased. The rest is chilling in my amazon cart until I earn my next gift card.

    Happy Homeschooling!
